Dr. McGill received his B.A. with highest honors / summa cum laude in Biology, Music, and Art History from Swarthmore College and completed his PhD in cell biology and biochemistry at Harvard Medical School funded as a Howard Hughes fellow. He continued his research as a postdoctoral fellow at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute studying tumor cell apoptosis and melanoma. He is now a faculty at Harvard Medical School in the Center for Molecular and Cellular Dynamics where his academic group focuses on scientific visualization and educational research.
Dr. Gaël McGill is Director of Molecular Visualization at Harvard Medical School and President & CEO of Digizyme Inc., a firm specialized in scientific visualization for education and the life sciences. As scientific and creative lead on all accounts, he offers clients a unique perspective thanks to a background in biomedical research, education, graphic design, web/multimedia programming and 3D animation.
Dr. McGill has been involved in a number of start-ups, serves on the scientific advisory board of several companies, and has been a scientific and communications consultant for the Boston Scientific Corporation.
He is the creator of the online portal molecularmovies.org and the Molecular Maya software toolkit. He has also been a technical editor for Wiley/SYBEX Publishing where he has contributed to leading Maya and ZBrush textbooks. Currently, Dr. McGill is also co-author and Digital Director of E.O. Wilson’s ‘Life on Earth’ textbook for iPad created in partnership with Apple.
