William P. Hamilton CMI, FAMI has been a biological and medical illustrator and artist for more than 40 years. He began his career while in college in 1970 illustrating a biology text, an African art syllabus and as an editorial cartoonist for The DePauw. After earning an undergraduate degree in Art, Art History and Zoology he attended The Ohio State University program for Medical Illustration.
He is a Board Certified Medical Illustrator (CMI), a Fellow of the Association of Medical Illustrators, and has served as: Corresponding Secretary, Vice Chair of the AMI board of directors, Chairman of the AMI Board of Directors and President of the AMI and has served on the boards of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators and the Vermont Chapter of the Graphic Artists Guild. Although mostly retired and no longer entering shows, he is a AMI salon award winner.
His book with Dr. L.C. Hudson, “Feline Anatomy for Veterinarians” Hudson and Hamilton is in it second edition. Hamilton’s work has appeared in dozens of books and magazines including work for National Geographic, Consumer Reports, Skiing magazine, the United Nations and for more 25 years Advanced Research Press. “Turning Back the Clock” by Dr. Bob Arnot, illustrated by Bill was a NYT best seller. He illustrated the best selling “Bodybuilding Anatomy” by Nick Evans MD, Human Kinetics Press 2007.
He is currently on the Crested Butte, Colorado Search & Rescue team, a 12-year special deputy sheriff with Marquette County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, including two outstanding service awards, and edits the Central Upper Peninsula Sierra Club Newsletter.
